When designing your child’s bedroom or playroom, it’s likely that adding an element of fun is high on your agenda. Knowing this, the Crate and Kids X Jane Goodall Institute collection has been crafted to inspire play and spark curiosity. Bright colours meet animal prints and beautiful illustrations for a collection of kids’ items that bring life into any space.

Best known for her 60-year behavioural study on chimpanzees, Dr Jane Goodall is a figurehead for the animal rights movement. Setting up the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 to further her primate conservation efforts, her work is continued today by teams all over the world. Entering a fun partnership with Crate & Kids late last year, the institute dreamed up an animal-centric range of fun kid’s items in the hope of inspiring the younger generation to take an interest in animal rights. From quirky cushions, to customisable armchairs, the collection draws inspiration from Dr. Goodall’s work with the natural world.

In a video about the collection, Dr Goodall said, “curiosity and play and a love of animals, that’s all you really need for a wonderful childhood.” Motivated by this philosophy, the hand-illustrated soft furnishings are both lively and marvel sparking. The items feature a range of wildlife, from the animals of the Tanzanian savannah to the colourful fish of the deep blue, and of course, it couldn’t have Jane Goodall’s name on it without adorable chimpanzees (the Sitting Chimp Pillow is a favourite).

“Another important thing about childhood is play. You can act out some of your fantasies and some of your dreams,” says Dr. Goodall. “You can take yourself in imagination to places one day you hope to go,” she explains in the video. Echoing this, the throw pillows work well together to provide play opportunities along with vibrant design. While the sleeping bags like the Botanical Sleeping Bag and quilts such as the colourful Serengeti Organic Twin Quilt are perfect for young explorers who are mid-adventure, or simply playing at home. Made of 100 per cent organic cotton, there’s also swaddles for babies (coming in a set of three gift set) and a Tropical Bird Organic Crib Fitted Sheet that make sweet additions to a nursery.

A highlight of the collection is the colourful rugs with abstract animal patterns and prints, which lay the foundations for fun. The Icon 4’ x 6’ Rug has African inspired forms, while the Animal Shaped Rug has delicate outlines of animals. We suggest using them to bring a pop of colour to an otherwise neutral room, or to springboard off when picking accenting colours. If you’re in the market for chairs – be it of the desk or arm variety – the range has a number of quirky printed options to choose from. The Printed Play Chair Blue Palm Leaf is an exciting choice for a desk or craft table, and the Zig Zag Small Nod Chair is perfect for a cosy book corner.

Prices in the collection range from Dhs69 to Dhs1,255 and it’s available to shop online and in-stores.
