Airbnb With Personality

Find some zen in this District One holiday home

LOUNGE AREA
A light-filled sanctuary with space for everyone to chill after a busy day exploring the city, the calming lagoon views beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows are given due attention with the choice of a beige swivel chair and retro Italian-inspired reclined chair from Pan Home. Floating shelves and a bespoke suspended console with ample storage space, from Fatin, add to the overall feeling of lightness and relaxation.

We wanted to create a unique interior to ensure the apartment would stand out in Dubai’s incredibly competitive short-term rental market

With three weeks to transform the different spaces and keys supplied just seven days prior to client handover, Ludmilla Quirin of  LT Design Architecture (@ltdesignarchitecture) fast tracked the client’s design vision to deliver a high-quality guest experience for this Airbnb home.  “The owner already has several short-term rentals, so we needed to establish a distinctive personality for the home, which they also planned to use occasionally,” she explains.
A laser focus helped decide what could reasonably be achieved given the rigid timeframe. “Airbnb properties are often very neutral, but we wanted to ensure the apartment would stand out in Dubai’s incredibly competitive short-term rental market,” she says. “The client requested that we incorporate touches of green to deliver a sense of zen, and we worked to find a balance between that and an elegant interior.”
The end result colour palette followed neutral rules with linens, beige tones and wood finishings, accented with emotive green and elegant black notes.
The “comfortable” budget allowed Ludmilla to spend more on high-use staples, including the sofa and beds, while her in-depth knowledge of the interiors retail scene was invaluable in sourcing distinctive décor pieces.
Physical access to the property was granted one week out from the client deadline so for the high-impact TV unit, for example, she went with a bespoke, minimalist design “that we knew would fit despite being unable to go in and measure the space beforehand.”
“Similarly, in the bedrooms we added paint accents to the walls and then prioritised the furnishings and décor accents.”

OPEN-PLAN LIVING
To offset the stark minimalism of the in-situ kitchen, warm woods and touches of green were introduced to soften the space, including a darker, green-framed arch mirror from Home Figures in the entryway. “I used round shapes to make the interior more welcoming and balance the multi-purpose functionality.”

OFFICE
The original maid’s room was reimagined as a cosy office space. “We sourced a series of black and white Dubai prints from Etsy to add some personality as well as to create a local interest talking point.” The softly contoured wooden desk faces the lagoon making this an ideal study or working space, with the overall vibe is more inspiring than simply practical.

MASTER BEDROOM
The sense of style continuity is immediately evident with the bespoke bed inviting immediate attention, framed by beautifully structured bedside tables from Loom Collection and warmly lit by a duo of textural and sculptural Luxxe Lighting lamps.

SECOND BEDROOM
A green feature wall, reminiscent of a spring meadow, elevates the space and ties effortlessly together with the green accents followed through in the textile accessories. The design theme-consistent black and wooden pieces subtly reinforce the zen mood.

DINING SPACE
Double aspect floor-to-ceiling windows throw unlimited light across this entertaining space that sits within the open-plan living area. “Day or night, this was designed to bring people together in an intimate and convivial way, for a casual lunch or laughter-filled dinner.” Both table and chairs are from Loom Collection with the statement light fixture by Luxxe Lighting.
